Attacking Tremayne with a ferocity that bordered on the Dark Side, Corwin severed Tremayne's arm and damaged his face. Leaving Coruscant behind, Corwin did his best to save his master, but Darrin's wounds were too severe. A few days after, Darrin Arkanian became one with the Force and left Corwin without a master. After his master's death, Corwin realized he had given into his anger in fighting Tremayne, and this deeply bothered him. He was haunted by visions of himself at Tremayne's side, and these visions were enough to cause him to be very cautious of the use of his Force powers, and always conscious of the Jedi Code.

After the death of Darrin, Corwin tried to return to his homeworld but found it deserted a learned that, except for his sister who was taken into the Empire's service, all of his family had been killed a decade earlier. Roaming the Outer Rim, Shelvay eventually crossed paths with Devon Fuller who introduced him to contacts of the organization opposing and rebelling against the Empire. From then on, Corwin became an invaluable operative in the battle against Emperor Palpatine and his forces. Always polite and courteous, Corwin embodied the spirit of the Jedi Knights and upheld their creed as he defended the galaxy during a time of its greatest peril.
